What drove me to write this paper is the will to  examine if there is a philosophically and scientifically viable  alternative foundation for an objective morality other than what we like to refer to as "God". The  American philosopher and neuroscientist Sam Harris presents in his book The Moral Landscape a thesis for an objective morality based on science in which he states that  science can determine human values. The purpose of this paper is to perform a theoretical trial of The Moral Landscape, examining Harris' thesis and it's relations to the philosophical obstacles that stands in its way, these being mainly the famous philosophical principle "Hume's Law" and G.E. Moore's "Naturalistic Fallacy and Open Question Argument" and thus will serve as my main theoretical foundation. The results of my study was not conclusive since Harris in fact doesn't succeed in bridging the gap between facts and values on a scientific ground.

This essay takes a closer look at femininity/masculinity, sexuality and queer time and place in Charlaine Harris? novel Dead Until Dark (2001). The essay?s theoretical framework consists of queer theory and skev theory. Skev is a Swedish word that translates loosely into strange or twisted.

In this thesis, a computer program that in a simple way can calculate the performance of control loops at the refinery Preemraff Lysekil has been created. The computer program has been adapted to the environment at Preemraff Lysekil. Theories for evaluation has been studied in aspect of reliability and of automatic implementation. The evaluation has been carried out from data collected directly from control loops at the refinery and from simulated control loops with implemented errors. Among the studied methods are Harris index and Stattin´s oscillation index.

The history of books and libraries in the Philippines starts after the arrival of the Spaniards in 1521. During the Spanish era, most of the libraries were established through the religious orders to support their own religious mission. The Americans came in the beginning of the 20th century and have had a decisive influence on the education system and the development of libraries in the Philippines. For the analysis, I have used the models of Michael H. Harris and Magnus Torstensson in their studies of library development.

Through participant observation in a local promoter group of hardcore punk shows inGothenburg and qualitative interviews with its members I have investigated links between taste in music, values and social structures in the hardcore punk scene. The theoretical framework of this essay is built upon the concept of subcultural capital, which is adapted from Pierre Bourdieu and developed by Sarah Thornton and Keith Kahn-Harris. The result shows how members among the hardcore punk scene create and preserve distinction towards others, while the distinction becomes important benchmarks for including and excluding practices in the scene..

Syftet med detta examensarbete var att utvärdera tre olika metoder för mätningav energiomsättning hos människokroppen med förhoppningen att kunna komma fram till en enklare metod vilket kan underlätta främst för patienter men även för sjukvårdspersonalen. Utvärderingen grundas på mätningar av BMR.Det finns flera olika metoder att mäta energiomsättningen och jag har använt mig av indirekt kalorimetri (referensmetod), bioimpedansmätning (BIA) och Sensewear Armband. Den sistnämnda är en helt ny metod och det är denna metod som främst har utvärderas gentemot de andra. Mätningarna med alla tre metoderna utfördes vid samma tillfälle efter fasta för varje försöksperson (n=10)och patient (n=2). Armbandet bars i tre dygn, indirekt kalorimetri mättes under 30 min och BIA mättes vid ett tillfälle.

Finansiell information är att anses som värderelevant om den kan användas av intressenter i deras värderingsbeslut. Ett värderelevant tal bör således påverka ett företags marknadsvärde. Utifrån Easton och Harris (1991) avkastningsmodell undersöker vi relationen mellan resultat och avkastning före (2001-2004) och efter (2005-2008) införandet av IFRS/IAS-förordningen. Vi utvecklar avkastningsmodellen genom att bryta ut minskningen av goodwillpostens värde från resultatet för att på så sätt undersöka goodwillkomponentens värderelevans. Vi finner att värderelevansen hos de undersökta variablerna försämrats mellan perioderna, och att de nya redovisningsstandarderna gällande redovisning av goodwill inte gett resultat..

This work is meant to contribute to the research of adaptation studies by focusing on a special case: the transformation of a fictional diary into a movie. In order to sustain the form of the literary source the adaptation to movie requires certain strategies. Först of all, the diary genre is characterized by a one-dimensional narration. Second, diaries only supply a few written dialogues, hence this "void" has to be compensated and filled by media specific measures. Third, the investigated diary is a story of individualization and emancipation of a single woman.

Resultatet består av tryck och mönster till t-shirts och skateboards, förslag till logotyp och ett paketeringskoncept. During the last few years the western world has seen an increasing interest in the topic of atheism, with bestselling books by writers like Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens. The critic of religions that these writers have brought to the table have not gone unmet, with writers like Dinesh D'Souza rushing to the defence of Chrisianity.Taking on the arguments of New York Times bestselling author Dinesh D'Souza in the current debate on the existece of God and the usefullness of religion, I here examine the claim by D'Souza that atheism, in fact, is responsible for the worst mass murders of history. In taking D'Souza's arguments and analyzing them on its own philosophical merits, with methods like the process of elimination and information evaluation (i.e source criticism), I will here show just exactly how persuasive these arguments prove to be. In the following pages we will not only discuss the role of atheism in 20th centuary totalitarianism, but also answer questions like ?Was Hitler an atheist or a theist??, ?Is atheism responsible for the worst crimes of history?? and ?Are people who believe in God in fact more moral the those who do not??.

Denna uppsats syftar till att ge en bild av förbundet Humanisternas debatt och porträttering av islam och muslimer. Detta med hjälp av utländska ateister som även förekommit i förbundets egen tidskrift Humanisten. Mina frågeställningar är: Hur framställs islam och muslimer av media och av förbundet Humanisterna? Vilken kritik har framförts av Humanisterna angående islam och muslimer? Bidrar förbundet till en ökad schablonisering av islam och muslimer? För att nämna kortfattat vad jag kommit fram till kan det sägas att Humanisterna, när de skriver om islam eller muslimer, delvis är intoleranta i sin retorik. Den kritik som framförts mot förbundet är bland annat att de vill tvinga på en sekulär livsåskådning och att de tror dig ha ett slags monopol på sanningen.

The purpose of this work is to investigate how 4-5 year olds perceptions of materials and material properties can be developed through an educational activity. The study is based on two interviews with eight children in that age category. The interviews were conducted before and after an activity where the children were first introduced to the subject by the tale of The three little pigs (Harris, 2009) and then given the opportunity to explore various materials related to the book. The kids got to experiment and explore how water affected materials and to compare different materials properties. The children were also attracted to build and create the material that was offered during the activity.
